Yep, the Millennium Falcon’s primary hyperspace-propeller has broken down. But you know, only 5 space-minutes ago, Leia offered to get out and push. Do you think she could go out now, and give the prop a good spin?

Above: Naaargh, indeed.

Art Notes

More fancy pants stuff in this page. Colour, and straight lines drawn with a ruler! Cor, look at those laser beams! They converge too—in perspective! Loads of weird colours in that laser blast in panel 2: orange, green, yellow and light blue. ‘ZZZTT! — ‘SKAK-OW!’

These scenes were very amusing in the film. Irvin Kirschner was definitely more excited about making Star Wars funny than George Lucas was. When I think of the funniest bits in the original film ‘Star Wars’—like when Luke, Han and Leia are on the Death Star—I also sometimes think of George Lucas behind the camera getting increasingly and proportionally irritated and stressed out. Apparently George felt that the actors just weren’t taking his mythological space opera seriously enough. Fast forward 4 decades and Harrison Ford would command a staggering, massive fee for his return in The Force Awakens. Yep, audiences love the funny stuff!

Threepio was great in the first 3 films, especially in ESB, but I have seen fans online saying how sick they are of him (and Chewbacca). It’s unfortunate that he did sod-all in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. He now seems to be relegated to saying “Oh dear…” and being cowardly or irritating.

One of the great things about Threepio was his capacity for bravery despite being naturally nervous and anxious. For a coward to step up and do the brave things when needed, is always impressive. It’s something which Laurence Kasdan and J.J. Abrams seemed to understand with the character of Finn.
